1983, Italy. Elio is seventeen, and he is spending this summer at the villa of his parents, an American professor and an Italian translator. A well-read and inquisitive young man since childhood, Elio dilutes the usual summer activities like swimming in the sea and lazy flirting with his friend Marzia by reading and transcribing classical music. One fine day, however, the serenity of the summer holiday is disrupted by the arrival of Oliver, a young American scientist, Elio’s father’s assistant.
