Description

In 1819, the American ship Essex, with a crew of two dozen people on board, set off from a port in Massachusetts to go whaling. In the fall of 1820, a successful hunt for a year and a half was interrupted by an attack by a giant sperm whale on the ship, as a result of which the sailors had to transfer to boats.
