When the Russian president dies suddenly, his post is taken over by a man about whom the public knows little. It is this fact that increases the tense situation in the country. CIA chief Bill Cabot recruits young analyst Jack Ryan, a specialist on Russia, to obtain reliable information first-hand. Soon something terrible happens: the capital of Chechnya acquires a nuclear bomb. Americans quickly begin to blame the Russians for everything. They are also distrustful of the information from Ryan, who carries out his investigations at the risk of his life. And he's right. Terrorists provoke the outbreak of war between two nations from behind the stage. When they successfully detonate a bomb near Baltimore during the Gold Cup, the world is already on the brink of war.
