Description

Dr. Treves finds Merrick at a "freak show." His appearance is so terrifying that he has to wear loose clothing so that no one can see the frightening growths all over his body. Taking Merrick to the hospital after another beating by his owner, Treves is surprised to discover in him an intellectually developed and spiritual person. Professional interest gives way to compassion, the phenomenon becomes fashionable in high society, the Queen herself blesses him to remain in the hospital forever.
