Sister Elosius, a stern school principal and ardent defender of monastic tradition, faces the choice of her life: either she will show her fear and openly accuse the priest of insulting an African-American student, or she will hide her suspicions and doubts. Especially when something more serious may be hidden behind a possible insult. This deep, personal struggle between Sister Elosius and Father Flynn eventually develops into a question of faith and justice in the shadow of a secluded, "closed" church organization.
