Description

Baz Luhrmann transfers the action of Shakespeare's tragedy to America at the end of the 20th century. The Italian city of Verona becomes the crazy metropolis of Verona Beach, the noble clans of Montagues and Capulets become mafia clans, and sword fights become street shootouts. Shakespeare's imperishable lines are now heard from the lips of street fighters and drug addicts. But Romeo and Juliet remained teenagers, and the sad story of their tragically interrupted love is still immortal. Times change, people change, but true love is eternal.
