80-year-old Professor Norman Thayer has long been retired. He understands that he does not have long to live, but what worries him more than death is that he cannot fulfill his duties as a man. He is even more worried about the discord with his daughter. The events of the film take place on the shores of Golden Lake, where a professor and his wife come (they believe this 48th summer will be the last in their married life) and their daughter with her friend and his teenage son.
