The owner of the Collinwood estate, Barnabas Collins, is rich, powerful and has a reputation as an incorrigible Casanova, until he makes the fatal mistake of breaking the heart of Angelique Bochard. Being a witch in the literal sense of the word, she dooms him to a fate worse than death itself - she turns him into a vampire and buries him alive. Two centuries later, Barnabas is accidentally released from the crypt and finds himself in a much-changed world in 1972. He returns to Collinwood to find the once magnificent building in ruins. The pitiful descendants of his family have survived only slightly better than the family nest, and each of them has their own “skeletons in the closet.”
