This epic story is about courage, honor, and the destructive inhuman power of war. The head of the prisoner of war camp, the cruel Japanese Colonel Saito, orders the prisoners to build a strategically important bridge in the jungle. Those, led by the cold-blooded Briton Nicholson, intend to sabotage the order. However, Nicholson suddenly takes the enemy's side and orders his subordinates to carry out Saito's order in the best possible way. It doesn’t take long for the perplexed captives to realize that their leader is slowly going crazy, before his eyes turning into a maniac of one idea - the construction of an ideal bridge.
