Description

Mrs. Flax is a woman of striking appearance and extravagant behavior. She constantly moves from city to city, dragging her two daughters along with her. Nine-year-old Kate dreams of becoming a swimming champion and trains in the bathtub, while 15-year-old Charlotte is obsessed with religion. After sharing her first kiss with a boy she likes, she imagines herself a terrible sinner and, in despair, plans to enter a convent. Meanwhile, Mrs. Flax falls in love with an aging, balding shoe store owner who is ready to propose to her.
