Description

In 1958, interracial marriage in Virginia was not just considered immoral; it was illegal. At that time, 96% of the U.S. population viewed interracial marriages negatively. But Richard fell in love with Mildred, despite the judgmental looks and venomous words they faced. They managed to get married in Washington, but that wasn't the end of it. One night, a sheriff and his deputies burst into their bedroom and charged the couple. Richard and Mildred decided to fight for their love to the very end and took their case to the Supreme Court. They had to go through hell for the right to love each other. "We may lose the battle, but we will win the war," Mildred said. The war was won in 1967, when interracial marriages were legalized nationwide.
