An oil exploration expedition from Petrox, cunningly joined by paleontologist and conservationist Jack Prescott, sets off for a little-explored Pacific island. Along the way, the expedition rescues shipwrecked Hollywood star Duane. On the island, oil workers encounter a giant gorilla, whom the locals call Kong. The monkey kidnaps Duane, but Prescott manages to free her. The leader of the expedition decides that since oil could not be found on the island, he can at least take a monkey out of it and make money by showing it to the New York public. However, during the first performance, Kong is freed and begins to destroy everything in his path...
