The film is based on the popular Broadway play - the famous rock opera by composer Andrew Lloyd Webber with lyrics by Tim Rice. In addition to the excellent music and vocals, the film is interesting for its unusual interpretation of the theme of Christ, which represents an alternative to orthodox Christianity. The connection between times - the gospel tale and modernity - is felt acutely and in a new way in the film. The film "Jesus Christ Superstar" can be called a harbinger of the video rock genre and has undoubted artistic merit.
