A man with no name is hired by the residents of a small town to protect them from three bandits who have just been released from prison, where they were imprisoned for crimes committed in this very town. The man (Eastwood), who agreed to protect them, has his own reasons for taking part in this - several years ago, when he was in the service of the law, bandits beat him half to death, but none of the residents of this town stood up. He managed to take revenge on both with Eastwood's characteristic severity and charm. Eastwood's second film as director.
