August 1944. Soviet troops continue their offensive in Eastern Poland. Senior Lieutenant Egorov’s unit receives the task of holding the bridge through which units of the Soviet Army are planned to cross. Arriving at the position, the soldiers discover a destroyed monastery, and in it - a group of deaf orphans with their teacher Eva. Having lost faith, she found the meaning of life in saving weak and defenseless children. Lieutenant Egorov faces a difficult choice - following the orders of the command, he will be forced to endanger the lives of the little Poles. The artillerymen are trying their best to prevent the death of children...
