Description

A high-budget historical film based on the script of the American writer Gore Vidal about the reign of the ancient Roman emperor Caligula, who went down in history with unprecedented cruelty, deceit and vices. Director Tinto Brass frankly showed what stood behind the facade of the heavily agonizing Roman Empire, once great and invincible. All the details of Caligula's cruel and perverted reign are scandalously exposed: shameless sexual attraction to his own sister, marriage to the most depraved of Roman prostitutes, repressions inventively refined in their brutality against those who might stand in his way. The talents of Malcolm McDowell and Peter O'Toole, combined with the superb performances of the entire ensemble cast and the participation of the dazzling beauties of Penthouse magazine, made this unsurpassed film a true masterpiece of the silver screen.
